A resolution is a request. A standard is a command. Stop asking yourself to change and start refusing to live below the line.

January is full of women asking. Asking themselves to wake up earlier, eat cleaner, show up better — all of it phrased as a hope, dressed as a plan. And a hope is not a structure. It has no walls. The moment discomfort arrives, there is nothing to hold the line, because there was never a line. There was only a wish.

A standard works differently. It does not negotiate. Seven children in this house means chaos is always one bad decision away — and I learned early that the days I ran on intention fell apart by noon. The days I ran on structure held. Not because I was more motivated. Because I had already decided. The decision was made before the morning arrived, before I was tired, before the reason to quit had a face. A standard is a decision you make once and then refuse to unmake.

This is what the resolution culture quietly steals from you: your own authority. It trains you to treat yourself like a request box — drop your wishes in and hope something answers. But you are not a box. You are the one who answers. And the woman who answers to a standard instead of a mood is not harder to love. She is harder to shake.

You do not need a new resolution. You need a line you will not cross. Draw it. Name it. Then live on the right side of it — not because you feel like it, not because the year is new, but because you have already decided who you are and what she does not do.

**A resolution leaves room for negotiation. A standard leaves none.**

Be the woman who already decided. Not the one still asking.
