The most attractive thing about you is not your face, your figure, or your warmth. It is what you do not give away.

There is a woman I think about — not famous, not loud — who walks into a room and something shifts. People lean toward her without knowing why. It took me a long time to understand what she had. It was not beauty, though she had that. It was not confidence, though she had that too. It was the unmistakable sense that she was not available to just anyone. Her attention was a door, and it did not open automatically. You felt it, even if you could not name it. You wanted to earn it.

Access is the rarest luxury you control. Not your salary, not your circumstances, not what people think of you — but this: who gets your time, your presence, your full and undivided self. Every other luxury can be taken. This one cannot, unless you hand it over yourself. And most women hand it over freely, constantly, without thinking, because they were taught that being generous means being boundless. It does not. Generosity given without discretion is not virtue. It is just depletion.

I trade for a living. The market will take everything you give it if you let it — every hour, every anxious thought, every compulsive check. Discipline is not a limit on your ambition. It is the condition of it. What I guard most carefully, I value most. What I give away without thought, I lose without ceremony.

The same is true of yourself.

A woman who is available to everyone is available to no one in the way that matters. She is present everywhere and rare nowhere. And rarity is not coldness — do not confuse them. It is simply the decision to bring your whole self only where your whole self is warranted. The women who last, who matter, who are remembered — they were never the easiest to reach. They were the most worth reaching.

**You do not become more by giving more of yourself away. You become more by protecting what you are.**

Be the woman whose attention means something — because she decided, long ago, that it would.
